Belated thanks
Well, it’s officially late night the Thursday of Thanksgiving and I’m grateful to at least get my post out before my day is done. This year, Dan and I hosted for our families; 10 peeps total, and one new peeplet, my wide-eyed (when awake) 7-day-old niece, Abbey Mae.
I had grand intentions of rising at dawn and taking candid shots during languorous prep in the kitchen. Instead, Dan stays up all night working his Top Chefery with turkey stock, a 15-pound bird, pork loin two ways and wheat berry/wild rice stuffing. I spend the day in a mad side dish and decorating rush.
So, instead of our actual dinner scene, Dan and I bring up the after dinner scene from Once on the projector in the multi-purpose room that is my home office/guest bedroom/frivolity staging ground.
Thanks to Kelly Lynae, Ms. co-Monday, for this stunning vintage apron from her visit to New York. It pairs mouthwateringly with this Mac and Jac silk dress ($10-Macy’s, original MSRP $100). The crazy tights, some posh brand I can’t remember for $10 from Nordstram’s Rack in Portland, drew a lot of red light walkin’ mockin’ talkin’ from my mom, but I love a reason for unbridled jokery on Thanksgiving, and I think a hostess should always look like a real good time.
Sample the reverse side of the apron. Tasty, any way you slice it. The glazed enamel earrings were a gift from Cuba from my friends Jenah and Jeff. Jeff himself is soon to have a baby. (I mean, not actually himself, but you know what I mean.) Welcome, new life!
Note the burgeoning belly room? Forward-thinking dressing. (For my food baby.)
This is the punny yet deliciously dark humor poster hanging on my bulletin board, designed by the brilliant Neighborhood All-Stars. Join me, Anna and the rest of Frivolous posse at Story Story Night‘s FULL PLATE: Stories of Biting Off More Than You Can Chew on Monday, and sink your teeth into an all-you-can-eat story buffet.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Thanks, most of all, to Dan Costello, the most talented musician/chef/partner and generous human I’ve ever met, who also took these kick ass photos. Thanks also, universe, for the abundance of food, family and frivolity.
