The Rose Period
I dedicate this coat to the Rose Period, an epoch I initiated mostly in my head in September when Story Story Night moved to the Rose Room, and Anna & I got our office in the gothic Union Block in downtown Boise, and everything stepped up big-time, even me, on good days.
I also dedicate this outfit to Kelly Lynae, Ms. co-Monday, who brought me this coat at ReStyle this weekend. I don’t think I would have picked it out myself. I would have been scared off by the XXL section. Kelly is teaching me to try new “silhouettes” (often read: “too, too big”). And also print block and pattern mix. Kelly absorbs so much world-wide fashion bloggery, and learns (and thriftily acquires) so fast, her looks are always a bit of a risk in some way, a bit of a play on something. She always pushes me to rethink how I think of fashion. And that is why, for me, the whole fashion concept is rapidly expanding into an ever more nuanced and artistic and borderless but ultimately and delightfully frivolous universe.
And still stupid cheap.
Unlabeled vintage coat: $14 (ReStyle). Epic sigh.
Jones New York silk plaid top: $1.99 (ReStyle). Cenza wool/poly plaid shorts: $2.99 (ReStyle). Egad, that coat’s green satin lining: Faint (in style).
When you smile every time you look at your lap: Fashion (or sexual) success. Jeffrey Campbell heels: $60 (Half off original MSRP at Piece Unique & Shoez.)
Ahhhhhh. I mean, seriously guys. So rad.See you next Thursday.
Thanks Bethany, the non-stop magic Ms. Friday, for the stunning photos, the extensive photoshop work (wink), and the blog to push and inspire us all. All photos were taken in the Rose Room.
