K: I told you I had harem pants. These blush shiny drawstring beauties have a gather detail at crotch-level that makes me sooooo happy, similar to a pair Marian Kihogo wore to London Fashion Week 2010. Photo from the Whole Hole.

Nicole: While I love and am jealous of your harem pants, I am gravitating towards Marian’s fancy tiered sleeves and pleated train…I will channel the inspiration into  hot pink petticoat layered under vintage pleated olive skirt.  Notice that the petticoat is the exact same shade as my 90’s hot pink crop top.

Doris Day Approves:

K: Unconventional layering is my favorite, especially when it involves various sheers! I love how unexpectedly slutty the sheer petticoat is with your demure silhouette. This tie-waist polyester blouse barely covers my pink-sports-bra-supported breasts. Does this even count as a subtle kind of sluttly? I say yes, because the harem pants are so fucking unsexy.

N: Totes subtly slutty.  You’re wearing a sports bra.  How slutty is that?  Take off the heels and blouse and you could be at the gym. I had to wear pink underwear so they wouldn’t be too obvious under my supah sheer petticoat.  Guess I felt like wrangling the subtle slut a bit…

N: Sorry ladies, some of us don’t wear petticoats under our petticoats for modesty…

K: But I do need one of those hats like I’ve never needed anything in my life. I swoon!

K: Speaking of swooning, these Chanel crocodile pumps? Thrifted for under ten dollars. BOOM!

N: Night and day. Though my lucite and gold vintage heels were also purchased second hand for under ten dollars!

N: Also, embarassing confession, I the petticoat is leftover from a horrible Halloween costume I got stuck in several years ago..

K: Do you mean the swedish milk-maid costume you voluntarily purchased to please a douchebag boyfriend? It’s alright, you washed that man right out of your hair… or was that the part you shaved off?

N: Touche, Robinson, touche.  Stop looking at me with those judging eyes… Also, does it make me look better or worse if I say he purchased it for me?

K: Better. Besides, you’re sure as hell making the best of it now. I made this netted collar! It took many hours. I also made the bracelet.

N: I recently discovered the roof of my apartment building…good for morning yoga and photo shoots!

K: Bises for Bethany, who takes pictures of me in the Cabana Inn parking lot at midnight.

Whether by night or by day, we hope you’ll dress slutty in a subtle way.

Sometimes life just sucks the wind right out of the very bottom of your lungs and forces you on your ass, as if to say – sit the heck down you crazy person, and take a damned breather! If the last couple weeks haven’t done that for/to me, then……well, I shall fashion myself a makeshift white flag from my undergarments and wave it wearily before my anxiety-ridden face.

I am currently splitting my time between two very different but equally demanding jobs – as Executive Director for the McCall-Donnelly Education Foundation, and as the Relator (which essentially means communicator/coordinator/motivator extraordinaire) for Story Story Night.

Story Story Night, Trey McIntyre Project, Bricolage, Chanel DaSilva

This past Monday at Story Story Night, we had our largest show to date – 450 people! I think we might be popular….it was one hell of a fine show, and we were even graced by the presence of the lovely Chanel Da Silva from Trey McIntyre Project and our talented trophy maker from Bricolage, Juliana McLenna (both pictured above).

Story Story Night, vintage fashion, rhinestones, sequinsThis is how we rock the spotlight at Story Story  – sequins and rhinestones, my friend.
And I just had to go and act the gooftard while Jess enchants the camera with those big, sultry eyes…that’ll teach me.

Today I’m in McCall preparing for MDEF’s annual Chocolate & Spirit Tasting fundraising event, which is tomorrow. It’s my first time putting together this event, so I’m terrified and excited, which is an exhausting combination. Thankfully, I have a wonderful board of directors who have been working diligently to make sure we have a successful turnout. And perhaps, dear reader, if you find yourself in McCall you might stop in for a taste or three…after all, it is for the children.

Then right after Chocolate & Spirits, it’s back to Boise with me to sign closing papers on the new property my manfriend and I are purchasing (which was featured in last week’s blog – Dressing for Purgatory). It’s been a grueling, teeth-gnashing battle, but we done won, dammit! There are garden hoes, honey bees and clucking hens aplenty in our near future, oh yes……

Boise fashion, vintage fashion, white booties About the outfit: When prepping for the last Story Story Night, I knew I needed to wear something that would give me strength – an armor of sorts. I wanted to put on a garment that would coat me in confidence and give me the fortitude to move through the throngs with elegance and ease. For such a formidable task, there really was only one thing for me to wear – my great-grandmother’s opera vest, circa early 1900’s.

rhinestones, antique clothing, Boise fashion, Idaho fashion, thrift store fashion, onyx ring, Sergio Collection bracelet, velvet skirt, black velvet,  This delicate silk wonder is studded in heavy, leaded rhinestones and silver-lined glass seed beads, and carefully tiered with scalloped edges so that as you move, the bottom of the vest swings gracefully about your sides. It feels incredible. I’ve truly never worn anything quite so thoughtfully and artfully crafted. I kept thinking about my great-granny Edith, and how she might have looked in this vest as she strolled through the streets of New York City on her way to an opera. How incredible, that more than a century later her great-granddaughter can revive her spirit through an indelible piece of timeless fashion.

I just had to take a photo of the tag my grandmother wrote when she gave me this vest for my 16th birthday – it’s too funny (and endearing).
Of course I would never give this treasure away! Golly, gramms…..

I wouldn’t normally do this, but aside from the vest, every stitch of clothing – boots, skirt, camisole, bracelet – has already been featured in a past blog. That’s the undeniable power of one very special item of clothing – I dub thee, “wonder vest”!

I loved the color palate for this outfit so much, I had to take a close-up shot. The coat I’m wearing here is from an earlier post, Violet Turning Violet

Welcome to Marcus Pierce‘s abode. He is an artist who has recently been relocating his paintings and currently they are leaning against the walls of his house. It was a Tuesday evening and he was working on a commission and I was working on a logo.

All day, before driving over to Marcus’s house, I had been working on my logo project and was still wearing pajamas. I slipped on this number before heading out the door. Since starting this blog, I’ve challenged myself to put together an outfit I’ve never worn each time I leave the house. Being that Marcus is an artist and also my boyfriend, he also enjoys being surprised by what I am wearing and the different color pallets I put together.

Subtly-slutty sheer blouse: Kimchi Blue dress, Urban Outfitters from 2 years ago

The 1970s polyester pants with their high waist are great for elongating the body. Anything that distorts the body makes for some interesting silhouettes. I updated this 1970s look by pairing it with a sheer blouse that is really an Urban Outfitters dress tucked in.

Evil eye Afghanistan necklace: Armor Bijoux

This is the first time I’ve fully embraced the sheer look that has been seen on the 2011 Fall and 2012 Spring runways. My courage to wear this sheer blouse comes from donning this evil eye Afghanistan necklace. Instead of this look saying, “Hey look at my breast,” it says, “Hey, look at my awesome necklace.

I wonder what necklace I would have to wear to be brave enough to pull this blouse off.

This is my attempt at an impression of a symbolist painting. Marcus studies and is inspired by symbolist painters such as Egon Schiele. Schiele is known for having awkward hand gestures in his works.

This is Marcus and Peaches after what was supposed to be a quick photo shoot and break from work. Time: 11:30 P.M.
