My mother’s Balinese maternity dress

Batik Dress: Tailored in Bali, circa 1978
Shoes:
Nurture flats (Dillard’s)

I was baptized at Kuta Beach, Bali, so batik is in my blood. Loose and airy, this tent-shaped batik dress with long sleeves is perfect for a day of temple hopping. Bagan is the ancient capital of the First Burmese Empire and contains a mind-boggling array of 11th to 13th century pagodas: 2,217 at last count. With so many temples to visit by horse-cart, comfort is key.

My cat and I are equally vain.

Silk shirt by Joie (Fancy Pants, Boise)

Linen pants: tailored by Pin-Pin (Hoi An, Vietnam)

Shoes: Nurture “Sinclair” wedge sandals (Dillard’s)

I’m 5”10, so if I want to buy pants in Southeast Asia and don’t want to end up looking like Huck Finn in clam diggers, I need to visit a tailor. I drew up the design for these pants and had two pairs tailored in Hoi An, Vientam: This ancient hub of the silk trade and World Heritage site boast over 500 tailoring shops; tailors in Hoi An have the frenetic ability to knock out a new wardrobe for their clients in under 48 hours. I’ve burned through many tailors in this little port town, and I can attest to a favorite: Pin-Pin and her family are the best for speed, price, and fit, bar none.

Why should babies have all the fun? I love me a colorful onesie.

Onesie by mansion (The Emporium, Bangkok)

I love onesies and I have just learned how to knit; when I can knit myself a snow-white cashmere onesie and wear it snuggled by a Baltic hearth, sipping Stumbras vodka, I will feel like I have finally arrived!
